Fitness Score

A Fitness Score is a comprehensive measurement that evaluates an individual’s overall physical health and performance. It is the first metric
to look at when considering an athlete’s progress.

Aerobic Capacity

Aerobic capacity refers to the maximum amount of oxygen the body can utilize during sustained physical activity. Aerobic capacity is often expressed as VO₂ max (maximum oxygen uptake) or LT1 and serves as a key indicator of endurance, fitness level, and overall health. Higher aerobic capacity allows for improved stamina and performance in activities requiring prolonged effort.

Anaerobic Capacity

Anaerobic capacity refers to the maximum amount of energy the body can produce in the absence of oxygen during short, high-intensity activities. It measures the ability of the muscles to generate power and sustain performance through anaerobic energy systems, primarily by breaking down stored glycogen. This capacity is crucial for activities like sprinting, weightlifting, or high-intensity intervals, where energy demand exceeds the supply of oxygen. A higher anaerobic capacity indicates better performance in explosive and high-power movements. This is sometimes also referred to as LT2

Efficiency

Efficiency in endurance sports refers to the ability of an athlete to perform at a given intensity while using the least amount of energy. It is a measure of how effectively the body converts energy into sustained performance, particularly over long durations. Efficiency is crucial for endurance athletes to maintain performance across extended periods, especially when competing in races lasting hours.

Muscular Force

Muscular force in endurance sports refers to the ability of the muscles to generate power over extended periods of time during physical activity.
In endurance sports, muscular force helps athletes maintain pace, and efficiently transfer energy during each movement. Improved muscular force enhances endurance by allowing the athlete to utilize their muscles effectively, leading to better performance and reduced risk of injury.

Mental Fitness

Mental fitness refers to the capacity of an individual to manage their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a way that optimizes performance and well-being, particularly under stress or challenging conditions. A mentally fit athlete is able to push through mental barriers, overcome challenges, and remain composed under pressure, which is crucial for success in endurance events. It’s also useful to track as a metric when considering overall well-being of an athlete.
